| Report: More than 70,000 in Hawaii eligible to use tax credits for health insurance |
| Monday, April 22, 2013 |
A report released by Families USA on Wednesday indicates that more than 71,000 Hawaii residents will be eligible to use tax credits to help pay for health insurance under the federal Affordable Care Act that goes into effect in January.
The report from Families USA, a national health consumer organization, also says people with annual incomes of between $54,180 for individuals and $108,360 for a family of four account for more than 50 percent of Hawaii residents who are eligible for the tax credits.
In the City and County of Honolulu alone, more than 42,000 people are eligible for the tax credits. On the Big Island, nearly 14,000 people are eligible. And in Kauai and Maui counties, more than 15,000 people are eligible.
“The tax credit subsidies are a game-changer,” Ron Pollack, executive director of Families USA, said in a statement. “They will make health coverage affordable for huge numbers of uninsured families who have been priced out of the health coverage and care they need.”
